The services for the Great Feast of Theophany were offered in the Holy Apostles Mission Station in Chilliwack, BC, January 5th and 6th, 2016. Since the Mission Station began services in February 2015, this was the first year that Theophany was served by the Archdiocese of Canada’s Mission in Chilliwack. Fr. Matthew Francis, Priest in Charge of the Holy Apostles Mission Station served Great Vespers, with Fr. Richard Rene assisting in the Great Blessing of the Waters.
After Great Vespers served in the Church on January 5th, the Great Blessing of Water was offered, with the faithful being blessed with the waters of Jordan, partaking of it, and taking it for the blessing of their homes, according to the tradition of the Orthodox Church.
January 6th dawned with bright sun and warm weather. Following the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, the faithful journeyed together to Cultus Lake, where the Great Blessing of Water again took place. It is our understanding that this is the first time Cultus Lake has been blessed on the Feast of Theophany, at least in recent memory.
One of our intrepid parishioners even braved the cool waters of the lake to retrieve the Cross, receiving a blessing for the year ahead. The Great Blessing of Water was followed by a Winter picnic on the beautiful beach, where we lingered well into the afternoon, enjoying the festal brightness of a God-blessed day.

In the Jordan He is Baptized!
